Solar Screens

In Las Vegas, the sun is relentless. Solar screens are one of the most effective tools homeowners and businesses can use to reduce heat gain, lower cooling costs, and protect interiors from UV damage. Kelly’s Glass & Mirror Co. has been serving the Las Vegas Valley since 1951, and our solar screen solutions are custom-fitted to your windows for maximum performance and a clean finished look.

Benefits of Solar Screens

  • Significant Heat Reduction: High-quality solar screens can block up to 90% of solar heat before it enters through your windows, reducing the load on your air conditioning system.
  • Lower Energy Bills: By blocking heat at the window, solar screens reduce cooling demand — a meaningful advantage in the Las Vegas climate.
  • UV Protection: Solar screens block the UV rays that fade furniture, flooring, artwork, and upholstery over time.
  • Glare Reduction: Reduce screen glare on televisions, monitors, and other displays without blocking your view or eliminating natural light.
  • Maintain the View: Quality solar screen mesh allows natural light and outward visibility while blocking heat and UV from the exterior.
  • Curb Appeal: A uniform solar screen installation gives the exterior of your home a clean, coordinated look.

Solar Screen Options

  • Exterior Solar Screens: The most effective option. Mounted on the outside of the window frame, exterior solar screens intercept solar energy before it reaches the glass. Custom-sized and color-matched for a polished appearance.
  • Interior Solar Screens: Mounted inside the window frame, interior screens are easier to remove for cleaning and maintenance. While slightly less effective at heat blocking than exterior screens, they still provide meaningful UV and glare control.
  • Screen Fabric Options: We offer solar screen mesh in multiple openness factors and colors. A tighter weave (5% or less openness) provides maximum heat and UV blocking. A more open weave (10–20%) allows more light and visibility while still providing significant solar protection. Our team will help you choose the right balance for each window’s orientation and purpose.
  • Fixed & Operable Screens: Solar screens can be installed as fixed panels on windows you rarely open, or as removable systems for windows where you want the option to take them down seasonally.

Here are the typical solar screen fabric color options

  • Black: Best outward visibility from inside the home. The most popular choice for modern homes.
  • Dark Bronze: Nearly as dark as black, with a warmer brown tone that pairs well with bronze window frames.
  • Brown: Softer appearance than black and complements earth-tone stucco.
  • Gray: Neutral, contemporary look that works well with white, gray, or black trim.
  • Beige: Blends with tan or cream stucco but reduces outward visibility slightly.
  • Stucco / Desert Sand: Lightest option, designed to match Southwestern stucco colors while reflecting more light.
  • White: Less common because it offers the least daytime visibility through the screen and tends to show dirt more readily.

For Phoenix homes, these pairings are especially common

  • Home Exterior Recommended Screen Color.
  • White stucco Black or Gray.
  • Tan stucco, Dark Bronze or Brown.
  • Beige Stucco or Beige.
  • Modern black trim Black.
  • Bronze window frames, Dark Bronze.
  • Gray exterior, gray or Black.

As a general guideline:

  • Darker fabrics provide a clearer view looking out and reduce glare more effectively.
  • Lighter fabrics blend into light-colored homes but can slightly reduce outward visibility.
